- Tell us something about yourself, your background:
I have been successful at selling houses, cars and diamonds, so I figured, why not invent a product to change the dress shirt industry.
- Tell us about the product you invented with a brief explanation. How did you get from idea to finished product?
I came up with Million Dollar Collar on my wedding day in Jamaica. I wore a shirt without a tie and it looked terrible on the biggest day of my life. The problem was there is no structure where the buttons in the holes are of a dress shirt. So I took the idea of a collar stay, made at 8 inches long and inserted it down the front of my dress shirt. This gave structure to the focal point of a casually worn dress shirt changing the way it looks forever.
The first thing I inserted was a piece of cardboard and I knew that wouldn’t last. So I tested every plastic I could find around my house and then went to the open market to buy every high heat plastic I could find to sample. After getting shirts back from the dry cleaner and the plastic being melted to the shirt I knew I needed something special. The whole process took about 2 1/2 years and 100 ruined shirts to figure out.
- How/Why did you start inventing. What set you off?
As a kid I used to get into trouble and break things by accident. So as to not get in trouble I had to figure out how to fix things. That started me on my journey of inventing. Since then I have come up with numerous ideas but have committed my life’s efforts into this idea Million Dollar Collar.
- Let us know of useful resources that helped you i.e. Books, websites, software etc
I went to Google-University to figure it out on my own the best I could. When I couldn’t find any more resources I found a plastics company and worked with them directly.
- Where are you with your product? Where can we buy your product?
Million Dollar Collar is currently sold on our website and every Amazon store around the world. We are also in 650 dry cleaners and tailors around the US.
