Camille VARLET: Mouth Off

  • Tell us something about yourself, your background:

I’m Camille, the founder of Mouth Off. I have almost 20 years of marketing experience and specifically over 10 years of consumer products experience. Before creating Mouth Off, I worked in brand management at Dannon and L’Oreal, and where I developed, launched and grew various brands and products, and digital marketing at American Express. I have an MBA from Columbia University and a BA in Comparative Literature from Barnard College. All of these roles has helped me tremendously in starting my own business.

Born in France, I moved to Chicago with my family during Elementary School.

I love consumer products, specifically if they have something to do with health and wellness, or food and beauty. I’m also a problem solver by nature. Finally, I’m so grateful for all the experiences that have brought me here today.

  • Tell us about your ventures with a brief explanation of each:

Mouth Off: We focus on a healthy mouth wherever, whenever. Our first product gets rid of bad breath, and unlike other products on the market today that just mask bad breath with a flavor that fades after a few minutes, we get rid of what causes odor in the breath (sulfur compounds). This means bad breath is gone. Our product works as you chew in under 60 seconds, and the benefits last up to 4 hours. Our formula is also plant-based, sugar-free with no artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors.

We launched in mid Feb of this year, sold out of our first production in just a few months, and since being back in stock we have been seeing great momentum. It’s so exciting to bring a product to market that solves a real and widespread problem. Bad breath affects 1 in 3 people- it’s common, and whether from food, drink, dry mouth or another oral care condition, Mouth Off leaves you with clean breath.

Currently we are selling exclusively online and you can buy a 3 or 6 pack or subscribe to see substantial savings.

All Beauty: Before launching Mouth Off, I had developed and launched a brand called All Beauty, a skincare drink formulated to help nourish and hydrate skin from within. Skin is the largest organ in the body, and if it’s not healthy, it doesn’t really make much of a difference what you put on top. Each bottle had 2 glasses of water in it, 8 skin vitamins and 7 additional skin nutrients. Sugar-free, no artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors.

  • How/Why did you start as an entrepreneur? What set you off?

I was on an innovation consulting engagement a few years back, when I learned of how widespread bad breath is and how ineffective the products on the market today are.

I love problem solving and consumer products, so when I found out about this significant problem with no current solution, I decided to solve it. Bad breath, or the fear and worry of having it, can make such an impact on an individual’s self-confidence and I personally can relate to how limiting and impactful not feeling confident can be. I knew creating a solution to bad breath would change people’s lives, and that motivated me to get to work.

I’d found an ingredient that hadn’t yet been commercialized that removed the odorous molecules in breath, resulting in removal of bad breath, and negotiated a partnership with the ingredient supplier. I then hired some food engineers and we created a dissolving gum (patent-pending) formulated with this functional ingredient. Then I found a manufacturing partner here in the US, we made our first production run, and started selling online.
